Description
2 x SAT 5.25 and 1 x SUB 8
More power to your desktop
In professional applications such as video post, ProDesk™ is the first truly full-range 2.1 monitoring system specifically designed for critical mixing and monitoring on the desktop. ProDesk™ brings the desktop user the same spectral performance as the larger Blue Sky systems, with the only compromise being less output. The SAT 5 MK II satellite speaker features a proprietary 5.25" hemispherical driver with a superlative Danish tweeter, and is powered by dual 60-Watt power amplifiers with adjustable gain control and a BOO™ optimized crossover.
The bass management for the 2.1 system is incorporated within the SUB 8 or SUB 8 Universal Subwoofer which is, of course, an integral part of the system, and features an 8" woofer driven by a 100-Watt power amplifier. When used in conjunction with Blue Sky’s Bass Management Controller, ProDesk can also offer an extremely high performance 5.1 monitoring solution for desktop audio and music production applications.
SAT 5 MKII
The SAT 5 MK II is the first significant upgrade to Blue Sky’s original SAT 5. The MK II version includes several upgrades, which both increase performance and reliability.
Each SAT 5 MK II features a cast aluminum frame, 5.25" hemispherical woofer and a .75" dual concentric diaphragm tweeter with integral wave guide for superior off-axis response. Powered by two low-distortion 60-Watt amplifiers with a computer optimized electronic crossover, the SAT 5 MK II Satellites deliver clean, accurate sound with a reproduction frequency response of 80Hz to 20kHz +3.0dB (200Hz to 10kHz +1.5dB). On the rear panel there is a Power Switch, Voltage Selector Switch, Fuse Holder, Gain Control, 12dB Input Attenuator Switch, LED power indicator, 80Hz High Pass Filter Switch and a balanced XLR Input.
The Blue Sky SAT 5 MK II Satellite speakers are housed in MDF enclosures and measure a compact 10.88"H x 6.62"W x 11.46"D, weighing 24lbs. (each). The SAT 5 MK II powered speakers feature full video shielding, perfect for use near CRT video monitors. The SAT 5 MK II Satellite speakers also come standard with M6 X 12mm inserts.
Gain range attenuator (+12dBu or +24dBu operation): Allows the user to easily optimize the signal to noise ratio
Redesigned input stage: Improved signal to noise performance, with lower noise floor.
Improved reliability: Newly designed, individually optimized, driver protection. Protects against both short and long term damage, without negatively impacting sound quality.
New sealed chamber for tweeter: Eliminates the possibility of any air leaks.
Dual Voltage Operation: Easily configurable via a dual voltage selector switch (115V or 230V)
Recessed gain control / trim pot: Less likely to be bumped or adjusted accidentally

- Application Notes
- A ProDesk™ 2.1 system is designed for use in professional desktop music and audio production applications using computers and digital audio workstations, including audio editing, film, video and broadcast post production. Because of the many variables associated with room acoustics, independent subwoofer and satellite level controls are provided. These allow the user to adjust the level of the sats and sub to achieve seamless full-range response, from below 30Hz to beyond 20kHz.<

- is that so...
- Q: Can you explain the concept of 2.1?
- A: Think of it as removing the LF source from your existing 3–way system and playing it back through a separate box (a subwoofer). Although still part of an integral system, the subwoofer can be placed away from your “mid/hi” speakers to provide the best bass response the room can offer.
- Q: Why do I want a system that uses a subwoofer?
- A: It’s about real low-end, the kind you can feel. Your recording system is able to record it, the audience will want to hear it and you deserve a true fullrange monitoring system that can accurately reproduce it.
- Q: Won’t I perceive a hole in the frequency response because of the subwoofer?
- A: No! The use of a sealed cabinet design results in an extremely flat frequency response.
- Q:Why don’t your speakers use ports or passive radiators?
- A: Ports and Passive radiators can increase the efficiency of a speaker system, but because they resonate, they also negatively impact the transient response of the system. Ports can also add noticeable distortion and noise.
- science fiction / fact
- Fiction: I don’t need to hear what is going on below “X”Hz
- Fact: If you can’t hear it, you can’t mix it—only when you have a full-range monitoring system will you be able to make informed creative decisions. So, don’t settle for the kind of low frequency performance that was around 20 years ago—aspire to that which surpasses what is expected today.
- Fiction: I have heard that subs don’t work well in small rooms?
- Fact: If you want more consistent LF performance, greater LF extension and mixes that translate better, there is no easier way to reach these goals than to use a Blue Sky subwoofer—especially in a small room!
- Fiction: Aren’t subs hard to set up?
- Fact: With literally thousands of Blue Sky subwoofer based systems installed in studios around the world, we have developed a simple methodology to help you get it right. And, if you have any questions, we are here to help.
