Description
2 x SAT 4.0 and 1 x SUB 8M
Accurate, full-range studio monitoring on your desktop
Blue Sky’s entry level 2.1 system - MediaDesk delivers accurate, full-range monitoring to the desktop and is optimized for computer-driven audio recording and production. MediaDesk 2.1 incorporates two ultra-compact 60-Watt powered 2-way satellite speakers, each featuring a high-quality 4" cast frame Neodymium hemispherical driver and a 1" soft dome Neodymium tweeter, complemented by a dedicated 60-Watt 8" powered subwoofer with bass management System. Subwoofer and master volume controls are located on the back of the sub, and are essential for optimizing its level and assuring seamless summation with the satellites.
Like all Blue Sky systems, MediaDesk can be easily upgraded to a space efficient 5.1 multi-speaker system with the 5.1 upgrade, which includes three more satellites, the amplifier/control module and a wired remote volume control with level adjustments for all channels. See the MediaDesk 5.1 Configuration for more information.
Media Desk SAT
At the heart of a MediaDesk system are two (or five in a 5.1 system) MediaDesk 2-way satellite speakers, featuring a high-quality 4" Neodymium hemispherical driver and a 1" soft dome Neodymium tweeter. Powered by a custom designed, low-distortion 60-Watt amplifier located in the subwoofer, each MediaDesk Satellite Speaker delivers clean, accurate sound with a frequency response of 110 Hz to 20 kHz ± 3 dB. The speaker level output connections are gold-plated binding posts and all required speaker cables are included. In addition, the satellite speakers are housed in solid 3/4" MDF enclosures with a lacquer finish front baffle, measure 9.5"H x 6.25"W x 6.22"D, weigh 5 lbs. (each), feature full video shielding and come standard with inserts that are allow for mounting to a microphone stand or wall mount brackets.
Microphone Stand Mounting Option: Center insert, bottom of the cabinet, is compatible with a 5/8" x 27 female to 3/8" x 16 male adapter (also known as a European Stud Adapter). This allows the MediaDesk SAT to be mounted to a standard mic stand, which typically has a 5/8" x 27 fine male thread.
Media desk SUB
The Blue Sky MediaDesk Subwoofer was specifically designed to complement the MediaDesk satellite speakers. Featuring a cast aluminum frame, 8" forward-firing driver with 1.5" voice coil, the MediaDesk Subwoofer has a dedicated 60-Watt amplifier with a frequency response of 35 Hz to 110 Hz ± 3 dB (anechoic) and a typical in-room response of 20 Hz to 110 Hz (for a 1500 cubic foot room). Measuring 15"H x 14"W x 15"D and weighing 45 lbs., the MediaDesk Subwoofer also features MDF construction and four removable spiked feet with M6 x 1 inserts.

Features
- Application Notes
- MediaDesk is designed for desktop music and audio production using computers and digital audio workstations. The compact satellite speakers fit easily alongside a CRT monitor screen, and are magnetically shielded to avoid image distortion. The subwoofer can be placed under the desk, with the level variable for accurate low end response. MediaDesk excels in a variety of applications including music composition, project studio recording and audio editing.
- a 2.1 monitoring system that works...
- True Full-Range Monitoring
- From 20kHz all the way down to below 30Hz
- Proven
- Used by industry leaders and highly acclaimed around the world, MediaDesk is a truly world class monitoring system.
- Upgrade to 5.1
- Start with a 2.1 system and later expand to a full 5.1 surround monitoring system.
- Sealed Box Design
- No port = no port noise = better transient response = greater SLAM!
- Easy Setup
- Straight forward with excellent customer support, if needed.
- is that so...
- Q: Can you explain the concept of 2.1?
- A: Think of it as removing the LF source from your existing 3–way system and playing it back through a separate box (a subwoofer). Although still part of an integral system, the subwoofer can be placed away from your "mid/hi" speakers to provide the best bass response the room can offer.
- Q: Why do I want a system that uses a subwoofer?
- A: It’s about real low-end, the kind you can feel. Your recording system is able to record it, the audience will want to hear it and you deserve a true fullrange monitoring system that can accurately reproduce it.
- Q: Won’t I perceive a hole in the frequency response because of the subwoofer?
- A: No! The use of a sealed cabinet design results in an extremely flat frequency response.
- Q:Why don’t your speakers use ports or passive radiators?
- A: Ports and Passive radiators can increase the efficiency of a speaker system, but because they resonate, they also negatively impact the transient response of the system. Ports can also add noticeable distortion and noise.
- science fiction / fact
- Fiction: I don’t need to hear what is going on below “X”Hz
- Fact: If you can’t hear it, you can’t mix it—only when you have a full-range monitoring system will you be able to make informed creative decisions. So, don’t settle for the kind of low frequency performance that was around 20 years ago—aspire to that which surpasses what is expected today.
- Fiction: I have heard that subs don’t work well in small rooms?
- Fact: If you want more consistent LF performance, greater LF extension and mixes that translate better, there is no easier way to reach these goals than to use a Blue Sky subwoofer—especially in a small room!
- Fiction: Aren’t subs hard to set up?
- Fact: With literally thousands of Blue Sky MediaDesk systems installed in studios around the world, we have developed a simple methodology to help you get it right. And, if you have any questions, we are here to help.
