Blue Sky EXO 2.1 £229.98
Description
Accurate, full range, desktop monitoring with the added convenience of a remote control and connection hub.
Blue Sky’s EXO stereo monitoring system combines true, full range monitoring with the convenience of a desktop remote control hub – all at a great low price. Like the larger Blue Sky systems used in professional recording studios and movie sound stages, the bass is handled by a separately enclosed woofer, and the mid/high frequencies by the satellite speakers, leaving both uncompromised to do their jobs properly.
The result is accurate, full range sound with solid, controlled bass, clear mid/highs, and exceptional stereo imaging. The overall volume of the system and the level of the bass can be controlled easily and conveniently from the desktop remote hub, which also features an iPod input and headphone jack. Professional connectors on the rear of hub accept simultaneous inputs from a professional mixer/DAW and a soundcard/CD player, making EXO perfect for applications as diverse as desktop music recording, audio production, multimedia creation, video editing and gaming – or simply for listening to music or watching movies with stunning, full range sound.
True, full-range stereo monitoring system
Two - 3" 2-way satellites, with 1" soft-dome tweeter
Separate 8” subwoofer, for extended low frequency response
160 Watts of total system power (35W per satellite, 90W subwoofer)
Convenient desktop remote control and connection hub
XLR / TRS inputs for pro mixers and DAWs
RCA inputs for computer soundcards and CD players, etc.
3.5mm mini jack input for iPods and mp3 players
3.5mm headphone jack, which when used mutes the monitoring system (headphone level is controlled via the GAIN knob on the HUB)
EXO HUB
The very convenient EXO HUB, which is included as part of the EXO monotring system, allows you to simultaneously plug in and monitor an assortment of peripherals via the XLR / TRS, RCA and 3.5 mm mini jack inputs. For example, the user can quickly connect a computer, a MP3 player or a mixer, and monitor all three sources at the same time. In addition, the user can control the gain of the system and dial in the subwoofer level, all without needing to crawl around under a desk.
The hub also incorporates a 3.5 mm headphone jack, which when used mutes the monitoring system. For the user this provides a new level of convenience and flexibility, allowing for a better integration of the EXO stereo monitoring system into the work environment of today’s audio / video professional.
The EXO HUB connects to the EXO SUB via a 8.5' (2.6 meters) multi-pin DIN connector.
EXO SAT
At the heart of a EXO Stereo Monitoring System are two EXO 2-way satellite speakers, featuring a high-quality 3" Neodymium hemispherical driver and a 1" soft dome Neodymium tweeter. Each EXO SAT is powered by a custom designed, low-distortion 35-Watt amplifier located in the subwoofer. Speaker level connections are made via rugged binding posts and all required speaker cables are included. In addition, the satellite speakers are housed in solid 3/4" MDF enclosures with a lacquer finish front baffle, measure 8"H x 5"W x 5"D (20.3 cm X 12.7 cm x 12.7 cm) and weigh 3 lbs (1.36 kg) each. The EXO SAT features full video shielding and comes standard with an insert that allows for easy mounting via wall mount brackets (not included).
EXO SUB
The Blue Sky EXO Subwoofer was specifically designed to complement the EXO satellite speakers. Featuring a cast aluminum frame, 8" forward-firing driver with 1.5" voice coil, the EXO Subwoofer has a dedicated 90-Watt amplifier with a frequency response of 35 Hz to 140 Hz ± 6 dB (anechoic) and a typical in-room response of 20 Hz to 110 Hz (for a 1500 cubic foot room). Measuring 13.8” H x 12” W x 13” D (33 cm x 30.5 cm x 33 cm) and weighing 25 lbs. (11.4kg), the EXO Subwoofer also features MDF construction and four removable spiked feet with M6 x 1 inserts.

Features
- a 2.1 monitoring system that works...
- True Full-Range Monitoring
- From 20kHz all the way down to below 30Hz
- Proven
- Blue Sky monitoring systems are used by industry leaders and are highly acclaimed around the world. EXO continues this lineage and is a truly world class monitoring system.
- Convenience & Control
- Adjust system & subwoofer level, connect balanced and un-balanced sources, listen to your mp3 player & connect a pair of headphones - all from the convenience of the included remote / hub.
- Sealed Box Design
- No port = no port noise = better transient response = greater SLAM!
- Easy Setup
- Straight forward with excellent customer support, if needed.
- is that so...
- Q: Can you explain the concept of 2.1?
- A: Think of it as removing the LF source from your existing 3–way system and playing it back through a separate box (a subwoofer). Although still part of an integral system, the subwoofer can be placed away from your "mid/hi" speakers to provide the best bass response the room can offer.
- Q: Why do I want a system that uses a subwoofer?
- A: It’s about real low-end, the kind you can feel. Your recording system is able to record it, the audience will want to hear it and you deserve a true fullrange monitoring system that can accurately reproduce it.
- Q: Won’t I perceive a hole in the frequency response because of the subwoofer?
- A: No! The use of a sealed cabinet design results in an extremely flat frequency response.
- Q:Why don’t your speakers use ports or passive radiators?
- A: Ports and Passive radiators can increase the efficiency of a speaker system, but because they resonate, they also negatively impact the transient response of the system. Ports can also add noticeable distortion and noise.
- science fiction / fact
- Fiction: I don’t need to hear what is going on below “X”Hz
- Fact: If you can’t hear it, you can’t mix it—only when you have a full-range monitoring system will you be able to make informed creative decisions. So, don’t settle for the kind of low frequency performance that was around 20 years ago—aspire to that which surpasses what is expected today.
- Fiction: I have heard that subs don’t work well in small rooms?
- Fact: If you want more consistent LF performance, greater LF extension and mixes that translate better, there is no easier way to reach these goals than to use a Blue Sky subwoofer / 2.1 system—especially in a small room!
- Fiction: Aren’t subs hard to set up?
- Fact: With literally thousands of Blue Sky monitoring systems installed in studios around the world, we have developed a simple methodology to help you get it right. And, if you have any questions, we are here to help.
